The owner is very involved which can be a good or bad thing depends on how private the person is.

The overall apartment experience is a mixed bag. Some of the positives: the host is very nice and welcoming, and the apartment itself is quite clean. I'd give it 5 stars, but I saw a roach once or twice scurrying around the bedroom (that said, I hear that roaches are a fact of life in NYC so take that with a grain of salt). In fact, it almost seemed like the bathroom was getting professionally cleaned every day. The apartment is located within 5 minutes of the 1 train and the A train (if heading downtown, I recommend the A train just because in my experience through the summer it is more reliable). The bedroom itself is big and comes with all the basic necessities. The host does everything to make you feel at home. The building itself leaves a lot to be desired. The elevator smells bad and so you may find yourself taking the stairs instead. However, the stairs, in my experience, are filthy and littered with cigarettes and other refuse. When I showed up late at night from work, I'd have to maneuver around other apartment residents smoking in the stairwells. The noise from the tapas bar downstairs was a drawback. I didn't realize it would be every night - be sure to get decent earplugs.
All that being said, the price was affordable - you do get what you pay for. Renting a large, furnished room in NYC with access to a clean bathroom and kitchen for the price you'll be paying understandably comes with a few downsides.

The apartment is very clean but roommates tend to eat and drink in their room and leave garbage which attracts roaches. It is not my fault if the building is not so clean and it's run down. I am a tenant and I have no control over the building condition. I make sure that the apartment is very clean. Roommates should eat in the kitchen or dining area and stop using their room for dining and leaving garbage.

The landlord is a very kind person.
There is a lot of noise from the Tapas-Bar/ Discotheque below and so I had to sleep with earplugs during my stay of 3 months there. If you are sensitive to noise I wouldn't recommend living there for too long. There is easy access to the 1 and the A-train and if your budget is not that high you find many suitable shops in the area. For several weeks of my stay there was one roommate more than indicated and so the availability of the bathroom was quite reduced. I would book this apartment again but only for a shorter amount of time.

Hi Lavinia, thank you for your honest review! Indeed the as advertised on our website it is a four bedroom apartment and the other rooms can be occupied by other people. We made a good note of your comment about the noise coming from the bar tapas and edited the description of the apartment to reflect that fact. We hope you enjoyed New York and will be back soon!

On the whole, this apartment share is nice. The main issue is that the landlady forbids access to the kitchen after 8 pm.

Thank you for your review, Aurélie. I prefer that my roommates do not cook after 8 p.m. because I go to bed early and the smell gives me a headache. Of course, if once in awhile you come home late, I will be fine with you cooking after 8 p.m. Thank you again, Aurélie. Zoila.

Zoila Perez is a wonderful landlady. She often offers me food and she has taken care of me as if I was her son. The apartment is very clean and the roommate a nice person with whom I could share many thoughts and meals. Even though the neighborhood is not the cleaniest or quietest it is provided with all the markets, grocerys, laundrys and facilities that are necessary.

Dear guest thank you for your positive feedback, it is our goal to improve your guest experience; your feedback is appreciated.

The neighborhood is uniquely located, connecting via train, bus to midtown quickly. Major
bridges and highways are easily accessible as well. It is culturally diverse and offers many necessary and
convenient commerce. Such as: lively restaurants, transportation hubs, hospitals, universities, and important historical sites. As such, the proprietors of commerce are responsible for complying with city ordinances and regulations. Unfortunately, we have no control over their compliance. We notify the appropriate agencies as necessary for action and follow-up.

A benefit of a thriving diverse business community is safety and security, with close proximity to police station. As well as community patrolling throughout the day and evening.

We sincerely hope that your positive and outstanding experience of hospitality, comfort, safety urge you to choose our unique neighborhood time and time again.

The best thing about this apartment are the roommates. They are very friendly and helpful people, and took great care of me when I had a problem. At the same time they always respected my independence and privacy.

The apartment (and especially the room) itself is pretty quiet. It does not face a big street, and the only real noise comes from the Tapas Bar below, but it never really bothered me.

I thought it was well connected to Bus and Subway, making it easy to go around the city.

Thank you for the positive feedback. We appreciate and utilize it to focus on providing an overall hospitable, and comfortable experience.

As such, we strive to facilitate a very peaceful, clean and enjoyable experience both inside and in the community. The latter, while not under our control, when necessary, we bring to the attention of the appropriate governing agencies for action.

For example, a positive to having diverse commerce and cultures within reach, such as the tapas bar, is increased police safety. The neighborhood is patrolled well, allowing for safe and frequent travel in the neighborhood throughout the day and evening. This is quite a benefit, in such a metropolitan city like New York city.

Additionally. Washington Heights is such an eclectic neighborhood filled with warm people, historical sights, major universities and teaching hospitals within minutes reach by walking or public transportation, that draws visitors back time and time again.

So, what else can we say? Once again, WELCOME! Bienvenidos!

This was a very nice apartment to live in for the summer. The owners are extremely nice and are willing to assist you with anything you need. Cable and internet are included, with air conditioning only an extra $20 a month.

Although the building is quite old, the apartment itself is clean and very well maintained. The neighborhood is very safe and usually relatively quiet during week nights. The building is located one block away from the subway station, providing easy access to the rest of Manhattan.

Overall I had an enjoyable stay here.

The couple who rent the apartment is really nice. They are always there for you if you need anything and really want you to feel comfortable. I really have nothing to say about them or the room which is big and furnished with a TV, a fridge and the Wifi so very convenient. The inside of the apartment is very quiet.

The building is located near lot of different stores and groceries, and two different subways so it takes only 30-40 minutes to go downtown. The neighborhood is very safe (I am a 23 year old girl and I felt safe every time I came back and at every hour), it's also very cheap around there.

The only big problem I had was the noise: the apartment is located in the same building than a bar/restaurant (that's why there are always people in the street and make this area safe, and also because the police office is at the corner!) so you hear the music when you're in your room and it's kind of really loud, at least it was for me.

But if the noise is not problem for you this apartment is great!

Thank you kindly for taking the time to provide us with feedback on your experience. It is highly valued and a source of continued motivation for improving on our hospitality and providing an overall comfortable experience.

To that end, our unique location in Washington Heights does afford the convenience of easy access to a variety of restaurants, shops. Major subway and bus lines such as the M3, 4, 5, 98; the number 1, A train lines provide quick transport to the center of the city(Midtown) and outer boroughs.

We are equally committed to facilitating an overall safe and peaceful experience. The quiet environment provided, gives us great pride; it is our hope that this quality balances any possible inconvenience of noise from neighboring commerce. Please be assured, that we bring such concerns to the attention of appropriate representatives for resolution.

An additional positive benefit of neighborhood commerce, is the safety provided by the strong police presence throughout the day and evening.

We hope that all these positive attributes are encouraging in helping to make Washington Heights a choice.

Thank you kindly for your review, Nicolas. It is our goal to continuously provide you a hospitable, safe and comfortable experience, all of which we take great pride in having successfully provided.

An additional benefit is the easy access to our historical neighborhood, Washington Heights. Here, you find and are surrounded by eclectic cultures, and thriving hospitable businesses offering choices of international cuisines at your finger tips, among them: Irish, Morroccan, Asian, East Indian, Italian and Latin American Cuisine.

We are also centrally located for easy access to the W181 St. Business Shopping District. There, you can easily shop for clothing, food, conduct banking and meet the local neighborhood people. Additionally, you have quick access to major transportation for easy access to downtown and the other boroughs, states, such as: IRT#1, IND A trains, George Washington Bridge and Bus station, West side highway, FDR drive, Cross Bronx Express Way and I-95. Just outside the apartment, taking a walk, bus, or train ride will give you access to major university hospitals such as world renowned NY Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

And if you enjoy sightseeing, or quiet relaxing walks, there are historical land marks, museums and beautiful waterfront parks. To name a few: The Metropolitan Museum's Medieval Cloisters Monestary at beautiful Fort Tryon Park and Gardens; Bennett Park, site of a very important revolutionary war battle and the Little Red Light House along the Hudson River.

Just as importantly, safety being a priority for everyone, we are located within close proximity to the 34 Police precinct whose policing presence is evident in the neighborhood, throughout the day and evening. So please remember, Washington Heights, "welcomes you."

Overall the room is very nice and comes with a TV and mini-fridge.

There are plenty of close stores and restaurants available nearby and there are two subways stops within walking distance.

The apartment does get hot and there is no air conditioning. While the inside is nice the building the apartment is in is not very nice at all. The hallways smell, there are rats outside in the alley where the garbage literally piles up, there's no doorman and it always seems that whenever you go out the front door someone who doesn't have a key is always rushing to grab the door before it closes.

The couple that rent out the apartment are very nice and give you plenty of space to yourself and are very helpful whenever you need anything.

Overall, despite the issues listed this is a good place to rent on the cheap, by New York standards anyway, for a few weeks or a month. Although it's in Washington Heights if you take the 1 train you can get to midtown in less than 30 minutes, it'll take a lot longer if you use the A train.

Thank you kindly for the feedback. It is our goal to provide guests with excellent comfort quality with in our reach and unmatched hospitality. To that end, we have added air conditioning and internet service.

We also understand the importance to guest to enjoy their experiences outside and in the community just as well. The building is serviced by porter daily; the porter is very diligent with building maintenance and is kind and gentle mannered. While the building does not provide door man services, it facilitates guests the benefit of affordability.

Easy access just steps outside of our location to numerous restaurants offering diverse cuisine is a major benefit and attraction to our historic Washington Heights Community. However, in spite of such attractive benefits we unfortunately are not able to control how the building and surrounding businesses manage the city 's ordinances related to sanitation. As civicly minded and concerned citizens we bring our concerns regarding this issue to the appropriate representatives/city agencies for action and resolution.

What we are able to impact, is proving guests with a highly safe, comfortable, clean, and uniquely hospitable experience complimented by a warm diverse community with easy access to major IRT/IND subway lines, GW bus terminal, bridges and highways. We personally view living in Washington Heights as a "Bridge to the world.".
