This room for rent is found in a shared one bedroom apartment, located on the 6th floor (5th for Europeans) of a 12-story building dating from 1920 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York. The entrance of this elevator building is supervised by a full time doorman and you will have access to the common laundry facilities.
The room for rent is the living room of this one bedroom apartment. This room is a separated area from the open kitchen. This room has a window with direct view southwest over the nearby street, onto a typical New York skyline. The room is furnished with a futon, twin size bed, closet, chest of drawers, and small table with two chairs.
Please note that there is no real separation between the kitchen and the living room, but the owner provides a divider for the guest privacy (See pictures).
A hallway leads from the entrance of the apartment with the fully equipped kitchen on your left, complete with an oven, a microwave and toaster. The bedroom, used by your roommate as a living space, is therefore inaccessible. Like the kitchen, the bathroom is shared with your roommate.
Being located on West End Avenue & West 99th Street in the Upper West Side is a definite plus, as this one bedroom apartment share right next to the two main arteries of the Upper West Side: Broadway (1 block) and Amsterdam Avenue (2 blocks). If you follow those avenues, a number of shops, stores, restaurants and bars are waiting for you to try them out. Our recommendation would be Regional restaurant (200m) on the first turn on Broadway for an Italian escapade, with tasty and close-by meals, or perhaps Spanish tapas at Buceo 95 (0.4mi/600m). For outdoor activities, you can take your choice between Riverside Park (0.2mi/350m) with its promenade along Hudson River and view over New Jersey or 4 blocks east to Central Park and stroll around the biggest park in New York City. The area is mainly residential, and the proximity to Columbia University translates in a significant population of students in the area. Also, if you feel like an artistic performance such as music or cultural events, the Symphony Space center is only 5 blocks away (0.3mi/500m).
The closest NYC subway on 96 Street / Broadway is only 5 blocks away (0.3mi/400m), and from here you can take a ride on any 1/2/3 line towards Downtown Manhattan or further up to Harlem for an easy access to the rest of Manhattan.

My experience with the owner was great, she is very friendly and I felt completely at home, the bedroom is really comfortable and has all the furniture you need, the only thing that could be improved is to add a curtain or something similar in order to have more privacy. |
