This room for rent is in a four bedroom apartment close to Columbia University in Morningside Heights, part of the Upper West Soide community of NYC. The apartment is in a lovely prewar building with a cavernous classic lobby and an elevator that will take you to the 3rd floor (known as 2nd by Europeans) where the apartment is located. There are laundry facilities in the basement, and a buzzer/intercom system to screen visitors.
The room for rent has plenty of the prewar features that make the building desirable, including wooden doorway and window sashes, and wall moldings. Additionally, the room has the convenience of having another small room with a sink in it. Furnishings include a single size bed, a desk, shelves and a dresser, as well as a fridge and microwave. Additionally there is a closet and a television. A ceiling fan helps circulate the air and a window looks across the street towards neighboring buildings.
The kitchen and bathroom of this four bedroom apartment are shared amongst the roommates. However, note that there is limited access to the kitchen area. Additionally, the living room of the apartment is not available for use.
Please note that there is a dog in this apartment, cared for by the roommate.
Step out the door and you will find yourself across the street from Riverside Park, which runs alongside the Hudson River. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the fresh breeze or you can take advantage of the athletic facilities, ranging from basketball to tennis. The Greenway can be used for biking or jogging, and runs all the way down Manhattan's West Side! The Morningside Heights neighborhood is dominated by Columbia University animation and has plenty of entertainment options. It is full of cafes, restaurants, jazz places, 24 hour stores, and French bakeries. The Columbia campus is just a block away off of Broadway (about 150 meters). The greater Harlem area is also quite entertaining -- 116th Street is a shopping corridor and Central Park starts south of 110th Street. This a great headquarters to discover New York from!
The nearest subway station serves the 1 train -- you can pick it up at either 116th Street and Broadway or at Cathedral Parkway and Broadway. This runs along the west side making local stops, and you can be in Midtown in just 7 stops!

I spent five perfect months in this apartment! It was my very first time in New York and I felt very much at home thanks to the kindness of the host. The neighborhood is quiet and there is everything you need, the room is spacious and well supplied. The host is very responsive to your needs and questions but you have a lot of privacy and autonomy. I couldn't have asked for more, I warmly recommend this accommodation! |

The apartment is great and well located in a very quiet area across from columbia. It is very convenient to have several 24/7 grocery stores and the subway 110 just down the street. |

During my 10 week stay, the host was helpful orienting to New York, provided engaging conversations, and provided a great amount of privacy in her place. While there were other roommates, they kept to themselves (as did I). It was a comfortable, quiet stay. |

Nice Neighbourhood, everything close by and the location is very quite. Lovely, very caring landlady, who lives in the apartment and is looking for you to have a pleasant stay. Myself, Mid20 European rented out this room for 6 months (April-Sep.), had a good time and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. |

The decoration is quite vintage, as if you lived in old times. The overall experience I had here was quite satisfied. The owner is pretty hospital and warm-hearted, who you can treat as a close friend rather than a landlord. |
