This alcove studio apartment is located on the second floor (considered 3rd by Americans) of a pre-war building on Rue Froidevaux between Avenue du Maine and Place Denfert Rochereau in the Montparnasse neighborhood of the 14th arrondissement in Paris. There is a washer and dryer in the apartment for your convenience and an intercom security system. High ceilings make this cozy alcove studio feel open and airy.
Enter the apartment in the living room that has some walls that also serve as floor to ceiling bookshelves. A sofa and some armchairs make the space inviting and homey. In one corner by a window there is dining table with seating for 4. In the kitchen, found off the living room, are the necessary appliances needed for cooking at home; there is a two-burner electric stove, regular oven, microwave, and even a dishwasher!
Up a ladder from the living room gives you access to the mezzanine level where there is a double bed. Part of the mezzanine level has a curtain for added privacy. Back down on the main level is an all-tiled bathroom that has a stall shower and sink with large mirror overhead.
Outside the apartment, the neighborhood of Montparnasse and Denfert Rochereau has endless options in terms of shopping and dining. Around the corner on Rue Daguerre not only there excellent bakeries and boutique shops, but at the beginning of the street at Avenue du General Leclerc there is a pedestrian-only portion of the street that serves as an outdoor market of sorts. Shop owners on this road extend the walls of their stores into the street where they sell everything from fresh produce and meats to a wide selection of cheese and homemade pastas. For a wider selection of grocery shopping there is also a Monoprix on the corner.
Many famous Paris attractions are in the immediate area as well. Right on Rue Froidevaux is the Montparnasse cemetery where many famous French people have been buried. Stroll through the beautiful park-like cemetery to find the graves of Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre, Charles Baudelaire, and many more. The catacombs, the large underground temple and mass grave are also located right at Place de Denfert-Rochereau.
To access the rest of Paris there are many options in terms of transportation in the area. The closet subway stop is at Gaîté which services line 13. Further down Rue Froideveaux is the Denfert Rochereau metro stop with service on the 4 and 6 lines as well as the RER B. Take line 4 to travel north or south through the middle of Paris, bringing yourself to some popular destinations such as Alésia, Saint-Germain-des-Près, and Île-de-la-Cité where Notre Dame Cathedral and Sainte Chappelle are located. The RER B is a great option to get to the suburbs of Paris where the Stade de France, Charles DeGaulle Interntional Airport and Orly International Airport are located. The OrlyBus’ station is also at Denfert-Rochereau, another great and convenient option to get to the Orly Airport.
