Room for Rent 3 Bedroom apartment in Sunnyside, Queens (NY-16714)

Apartment Share Rental: 5 months

Never in my 3 years living abroad in different countries have I been in such an uncomfortable living space.
During the very brief time I stayed here, every week a new rule would come up, not before-mentioned in the lease.
It felt like these new owners wanted kids of their own, and not adults, to impose their rules on them.
Being first time leasers, they had no idea really how to communicate and deal with respectable tenants and students both American and International.
Even family overnight visitors had to pay a fee to use the shower/oven etc., and were not allowed to visit without a written and signed consent form from the owners.
Owners would walk into the apartment at any time unexpected, literally every day more than 7-8 times, go about doing tasks which were completely unnecessary, being completely curious and critical about leaving a single dish in the sink, with total disregard for any form of privacy. Cameras we were not told about were installed as well, and they later would say things like 'I saw on the camera that you all came home and were being loud at 5 am.'
Also felt a hint of racism towards certain students from certain countries, and allegations of theft were made.
Us roommates all got along perfectly and needed a small seating area to hang out, as opposed to sitting in each others' rooms, and given that there is no living room and just a tiny hallway, we asked if we could have a few chairs to put in the long hallway but were refused that even.
We were told that the apartment is theirs, and we are not to change anything and we are only renting out each individual room, therefore they have the right to still come in and do what they please at any given time.
Extra storage units were then placed in the hallway where we could have had chairs and a t.v, and they stayed empty since none of us roommates needed it there.
Cleaning lady once a week might as well not come in, since nothing would get cleaned and barely any time was spent on the lower floor as much as their apartment on the upper floor.
All in all, I wish them well, but I am glad I left and I am much happier and more relieved where I am now where there is respect and a sense of savoir vivre.
Good luck to anybody who tries living here
