Gowanus is a mostly industrial neighborhood with residential sections on the outskirts. There are not many apartments in this area yet, but many old factories are slowly being converted to lofts and artist spaces.
Carroll Gardens is one of the few places in New York where front gardens still exist. Carroll Park is a great park with a playground, bocce court and basketball courts. The neighborhood is now populated by many small cafes and antique shops.
