Apartment Rental: 6 months

The owners were generally sensible and accommodating. I appreciated the communication between us and the sincerity they showed. I enjoyed my stay, however there were a couple of issues that prevented me from rating the apartment a 10 overall. We were off to a rough start but the owners managed to solve most of the issues with the dryer, refrigerator not working, and requested an AC as one was listed in the lease. The A/C turned out to be a giant fan that sounded like an AC but did not operate like one. During the summer, it was frustrating because it was cooler to have the "A/C" off and open a window instead. Quite often one of the young children downstairs would yell and scream early in the mornings waking me up. At first it frightened me but it eventually became routine. The wifi was hardly detectable in our unit, it was only available in parts of the living room, and I was unable to connect from the bedroom. The light at the top of the stairs did not work so I often walked downstairs in the dark as there was a light switch with a timer at the bottom of the stairs.

These were our only quarrels with the apartment. I loved the location, accessibility to trains and grocery stores, and the unit itself was spacious. The washer and dryer inside the unit was a valuable luxury, and the cable was very reliable. The owners and their family was pleasant and very welcoming. I appreciated them. Additionally, I received most of my deposit back. However, I would not rent from them again nor recommend a friend mostly due to the price. I personally believe $1800 a month is much too high for the value of this apartment.

Thank you for your review of the apartment. In response to some of your queries, I would first like to say that the fridge was replaced with a brand new one within a week once it was determined that it was unusable. The dryer situation rectified as soon as the repairman identified the problem. Although this is the first time I am hearing about the wifi issue, we have contacted our service provider to check that it indeed does work in the room. Please bear in mind due to the age of the building, their are spots that it doesn't' work because the
building is very old and made of plaster and bricks. I am aware that our daughter has difficult moments at times. She is trying to learn how to be more quiet in the morning. I'm sorry you had problems with the AC. We have purchased a new AC for the unit so it will cool the apartment efficiently. The light at the top of the stairs is repaired. Again, this is an issue I am unaware of until this review. The price of the unit is market price for apartments like this in the neighborhood - but I understand that real estate price levels in New York can take visitors by surprise. Thank you again for your review.
