The apartment lived up to expectations, it was comfortable, clean, quiet and extremely well located.

The apartment is very well located close to Central Park and Broadway Avenue. However, the street is very noisy and the window insulation is not sufficient to attenuate noise pollution. The building is pretty well maintained and clean. Unfortunately, there is an unpleasant smell of cold tobacco in the corridors. The bedroom is pretty comfortable, and the bathroom is large. However, we had problems with the heaters. The apartment is equipped with central heating. There was a tropical heat in the bedroom and we were unable to lower the temperature of the heaters. One of them was giving off steam and was leaking, which made the floor warp. Sufficient for a short stay but not for longer.

Hello Amélie,
Thank you for your honest review of central park inn we appreciate our customers to please let us know of any issues that may arise during their stay so we can address it , the heating system is an old system of steam and hot water , we try to make sure that the heat received during the winter season is sufficient to all the tenants staying here and to NYC standards. if it is too hot for tenants there are valves to lower it in the apartment just let us know, it can be turned down or off at the heating elements.
We let our tenants know that smoking in the apartment is not allowed it is on the lease, but sometimes you cannot control everyone we rent to unfortunately we can only talk to them and give them fair warning. Laws in nyc seems to be more for the Tenants side than the Landlords these days. so our hands are tied and if we do or don't we are damned either way, one tenant complains too much heat , then another not enough heat and on and on it happens every year. but thank you for staying with us and for understanding.
We sincerely appreciate it.
Thank you,

It was difficult to get my security deposit back. They promised it will take 60 days, but after the deadline I had to constantly call/text them for a couple of weeks in order for them to actually start the return process. In the result, however, I received my security deposit back.

The apartment itself is fine. There's nothing too special about it. It's not located in the best neighborhood, but it's very close to a B/C subway station and Central Park.

Gabriel and the cleaning service people were super friendly and helpful. I consistently smelled smoke in the building, the mattress provided was disgusting (I had to get a mattress topper), the heater was hardly ever on so I was always cold the last few weeks, and having to log into the wifi every time was annoying, but otherwise, I was happy with the experience!

Hello Gilles and thank you for your review. We regret that you found the booking process to be too complicated. Unfortunately some owners might require more paperwork than others and this aspect is unfortunately out of our control. Regarding the agency part, your comment is important as we constantly work to improve our service. Please note that we are currently working on a new online payment that will dramatically improve your experience.

This apartment is equipped with basic amenities, but it's perfect for short/medium stays. The weekly cleaning service is necessary, and I found it very convenient.
The location is excellent, right next to a subway station. The area looks safe and even when I walked around at night I've never seen any danger or suspicious situation.
The only problem was the frequent noise coming from the street at night, which often prevented me from sleeping.

Dear Giovanni ,
We much appreciate your honest review this helps us to make our future guests stay comfortable.
yes, we are sometimes met with some noisy street outside, although we are called the city that never sleeps "no pun intended" . we will try to work on having the apt windows checked for noise reduction.
The neighborhood is very safe and comfortable, some of our residents who's been here a while find that most people who live on this area are from an older generation of nyc going back to the 70's even , they are all friendly and helpful.
Thanks,

The apartment's location is very good, very close to Central Park, subway station, whole Foods, laundry and other shops. The apartment is comfortable, clean, with good lighting and central heating. I was staying at the 5th floor and there is no lift, but this was no problem for me. I had no problem with noise during my stay. The owner is kind and receptive, as well as employees.

It was everything I needed when I stayed in NYC for a few months - nothing more, nothing less. Would've been nice to have a bit more space, but still fine. My smoke alarm ran out of batteries early on - I asked a couple of times for a battery replacement, to no avail. Not a big deal though. The staff are alright, they do their jobs.

First let me address that this is not a hostel , you rented a studio apartment, this apartment was clean when you moved in , also it was cleaned once per week by our maids, clean sheets , clean towels provided to you ,they have worked with us for the four years since we began . second the agent you booked with informed me you requested a lower floor to which we held for you everything was explained to you properly and i do not believe anyone was rude to you during your stay as you obviously stayed you entire time .

The office hours are from 9 am to 5pm , should mail come during those times you will get it , we usually have the same delivery men almost everyday they know our business hours and had no problems with them before.

Thank you.

Hi Bianca. Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your stay was not as you intended. As you may have noticed on the apartment page of our website before you booked, this is a model apartment, meaning when you book you may not get this exact apartment, but an apartment very much like it. Sorry if this caused any confusion. We hope to provide more clarity in the future.

although the room was quite small ...and some times i feel discomfort in my breath....and sometime when i cook in the room the whole room was filled with the smell and smoke ..this is the only disadavntage ...

i also kept this house very clean ...and although they came to clean weekly ..i myself personally clean my room on daily basis ...

i wish central park people can also offer some low budget rentals in this area as well ...

Thank you we appreciate the kind words. The area is quite nice and everything just walking distance, as with all NYC neighborhoods , rent is up , but we feel this is the best deal for the services provided and time needed . All apartment studios that have a kitchen , has a microwave with an exhaust fan above the stove , or each apt has a window that could open . then again it depends on what you are cooking. located on 2nd and 5th floors are common kitchens if you decide not to cook in your apartment . The weekly cleaning is mandatory as stated on the lease for the major reason is to maintain upkeep of the apartment, Please keep in mind not everyone is the same, some work long hours , some students are not that tidy so we feel as much as we spent to have the items and apartments remodeled it helps providing upkeep . most tenants really appreciate this .
Thank you very much .

Gabriel, the owner, was always helpful. The apartment itself was also great. However the cleanliness could be improved.

The other negative was the A/C that was only installed at the end of May, although it was already much too hot in the apartment before then. The controlled heating system was also problematic. Because of it, even on cold days, the apartment was much too hot.

All in all though, a conveniently located apartment to be recommended.

Answer by: Apartment Owner
Jul 31 2013

Much appreciated, thank you for your honest review and we will work with the maids to see where they can be improved, we do install the a/c's in the summer, though some days are warmer it helps with energy conservation if it shows it will be intensely hot or above 80 deg.

In spring we will definitely install them. In winter season we try to accommodate all our guests as some have issues with the colder temps, we try to make them comfortable as possible.

To tell the truth, my experience was excellent. Even though the apartment was not very well equipped (a moka pot and a blender would be nice to make more things at the kitchen besides fried eggs and frozen food), it was very good for it's price, located at a privilieged spot on the upper west side, with very quiet surroundings and near populated avenues and transportation at the same time.

One very favorable point it's the bathroom: it's modern, tidy and relatively spaceful, which is a very important thing when traveling. The manager and his staff was very nice and gentle.

To say, the place is perfect for a student or a young couple not looking not for excesive amenities but a nice and economic place to stay while visiting that wonderful city.

Further to this review, the owner has checked on the heating of the building and verified that it is functioning properly and sufficiently. The heating from the building cannot be controlled from each individual unit, but there is a centralized thermostat for the entire building controlled by management.

It met my expectations, the apartment is very well maintained, newly remodeled and the appliances worked without any problem. the bathroom was very spacious and comfortable, clean and with nothing wrong. The wi-fi internet service could be improved, very slow in my opinion, as well as the cleanliness of the building itself. Otherwise highly recommended for its value for money, location (in front of Central Park and a subway station on the same street).

the appartements were supposed to be selfcatered, but there was almost nothing in the kitchen. just two plates, two forks and two cups, not even a cutting knife! there were no water glasses. when I asked for a sponge to clean the dishes I was told that they don't provide this. so I had to buy a lot of things myself. the apparments was not fully furnished on arrival, and I was asked to let them do works in it during my stay. (then it got dusty from the works, but nobody cleaned afterwards). the TV cord was too short, so you could only keep the TV on the desk and then there was no space for anything else on it. the only chair was broken. they wouldn't change towels or sheets once (in a 4 week stay!), and there was no cleaning at all. not even while the building was under construction (and there was a lot of dust, noise and dirt in the hallways!). the lobby was closed all the time, and the clerks from the desk were very nice, but never there and could just tell us, that they don't have, don't do, don't know.

This apartment building is a renovated hostel. Each studio is equipped with cookware and utensils for up to 2 people. The owner apologized for the state of the building and for the room not being furnished upon the clients arrival. The furniture in the units has been upgraded. The owner now offers maid service for an additional fee. Be assured the full review was passed on to the apartment owner.

The apartment was indeed well renovated. Very comfortable. Only setback was perhaps the cable TV which wasn't working very well.

Overall the apartment was still excellent - free wifi, extremely convenient with subway 3 seconds away n central park across the road, nearby convenience shops etc, safe vicinity.

Particularly, I would like to commend the services of it's concierge/reception services (Michael)- very efficient and helpful. I would certainly return to stay in this apartment.
