The landlord lady is not very friendly. She found different excuses trying to increase additional payment. The apartment is not as clean as she promised. There are mouse and cockroaches. There is also a backyard as she mentioned in the description but we are not able to use them. When we moved out, we did an exclusive cleaning and two of landlords' friends came and checked and said we really cleaned the house but the owner refused to be believe that and tried to deduct our deposit and accused us of stealing her pillowcases. In the around half a year term stay, we were accused of breaking a glass( the window in kitchen fell down accidently and hurt my roommates leg and it turned out the lock of the window is too old to hold things together but she still charges us the money and blame us for the damage and because the repairman came in delay, we got the glass fixed after two weeks while NYC is in the raining season), stealing her pillowcases(she blame that on us but later she found the pillowcases in the closet, we never used her linens yet she found a way to use them against us) and even the light that doesn't work on the first day we moved in can be seen as our fault as the owner believed she had done a lot and it can't be her fault. This is the worst renting experience so far in my entire life. The owner is in France and she would fly to NYC without any notice and demand to come into the apartment. Even after she gave back our deposit and she declared the termination of our contract, she is still contacting us and claiming that there are fee that she forgot to charge. I am so tired of this and I'll surely avoid renting from a private owner again.

Daoheng - I saw your review as a long-term landlord with NY habitat who has never had any report like that, they were concerned and have given me the benefit of the doubt.

First - I did not take the full two weeks granted to me by law to return your deposit in FULL as I was entitled to make sure all loose ends were cleaned up. But the contract clearly stated the additional electric charge. So, this accusation is not true.

Second - Not having garden access is simply untrue. Like all the current tenants before and after as well as those in the other units, you had access and a key to the garden. Everyone else used it. The garden key was left upon your check out, so you had it the whole time. And not once was this mentioned to me or any of the other tenants during your stay.

Third, I did tell you I would be there because you texted about the mouse. So, you had 100 percent had warning.

Fourth - The cleanliness? This part is not true and you three were the unclean ones. What I found the day I was there to look into the mouse situation was food and garbage everywhere! But furthermore, I sent an exterminator three times to fix the issue. Additionally, I cleaned that apartment top to toe for 3 weeks myself; I replaced rugs, kitchen towels, cooking pans, and the water filter. The cleaning lady I have had and trusted for 15 years also came prior to your arrival. No one has EVER mentioned my place not being clean.

And you also took it upon yourselves to ask one of my long-term tenants who is not super to deal with your mouse. Which is out of bounds to me. It's not his responsibility but you didn't care to inquire with me about this.

Fifth - I didn't/don't have cockroaches - sometimes there was an occasional water bug which is a completely different thing. But I was personally in the apt before you and there weren't any and there is a tenant there now and he isn't having this issue. So, if there are cockroaches for the first time in 14 years it's YOU three who brought by leaving packing materials which are known harbors of cock-roach eggs, in my house! Especially those from overseas and fast-food bags with dirty napkins and food everywhere, which cockroaches also love! And you also NEVER brought this to my attention. Since you departed there have been three sets of guests and not one experienced this.

Sixth - The windows which I cleaned personally on both sides - more than I did for ANY other tenants - were sticking. But when I left it worked fine. So be thankful I didn't expect you to replace it fully. So safe to save, we don't see things the same way on that. Many people would have expected 100 percent replacement because it happened while you were living there and touching it.

Seven - The ceiling fan lamps - again. I cleaned these myself and put new pull chains on and they worked. Perhaps for lack of understanding how they work, you pulled too hard and broke it? But again, I solved this issue ASAP making it a priority just like the window by hiring Winslow to come to and fix it immediately..

Seems you forgot to mention that you blew the fuse on my microwave but instead of telling me so I could attend to and easily remedied, you took a giant piece of duct tape so no one would use?? And got sticky residue on my microwave. I personally still don't know that It's all gone.

As for the pillowcases - whether you feel any wrongdoing, I know some are missing but I didn't hold you responsible. Part of the issue was that your checkout was 12/31, a checkout date that I will never allow again. I was very distracted spending the last few hours with my son and getting him packed to return to NYC after visiting for the holidays, so it was a stressful moment, my apologies.

When my former nanny checked you out, she didn't know until after that some were missing. But as I didn't do an inventory you received your deposit of 100 percent back. There is no denying that. However, I did discover after you left wine glasses, glass Pyrex storage bowls, and two serving trays missing, but you did not acknowledge any wrongdoing yourself in your complaint.

When you rented my HOME, you were made fully aware of my concerns about how things were meant to be maintained by both me and the agency. Sorry if a more impersonal approach is your preference. But as they say, live and learn.

Lastly, the agency sees my track record and will surely reflect this to other clients. Not everyone rents to young inexperienced students. I took a chance. Please remember that.

I stayed in this Apartment for 4 months and was very happy overall. The kitchen has all the appliances we needed, including a washer and dryer. Air-conditioning in summer was great. There is even a back yard garden that is private and peaceful. The location was great for my work. There are major subway stops (M,E & 7) within one and two blocks. The neighborhood is safe, quiet and has convenient shopping. Vernon and Jackson has some of NYC's best restaurants including Michelin Star restaurants. Long Island City is NYC's new and up and coming neighborhood. I loved staying there and when I return I hope this place is available..
