Accommodation Rental: 11 days

Pros
- 2 blocks from subway (30 min to downtown Manhattan, you will need weekly or monthly Metro ticket since it gives bus and metro access)
- Lots of rooms, tv, DVD (some kids and adult movies stocked), piano, foosball table, kitchen stocked with pots/pans, washer dryer for clothes (a little rickety, but detergent was there), good books on bookshelf
- Air conditioning essential to summer humidity and heat.
- pleasant owner very accessible
- safe neighborhood across from Prospect Park
- walking distance to small grocery stores and larger ones too; CVS jogging distance; Target is subway ride away; better restaurants are subway ride away

Cons
- All of us were bitten by bugs of unknown unseen type despite windows and doors shut and using insect repellant. We sanitized all our clothes on return.
- Renters upstairs sometimes loud.
- Circuit breakers kept tripping. Very old building with wires visible. Some concern regarding fire safety.
- Minor weird things: humid basement, circuit breakers kept tripping, door locks not all functional, refrigerator self opens, wires exposed, pest repellent noise maker constantly on, living room curtains let pedestrians see you at night
On balance

Nice rental with pros outweighing small cons. We had to figure out a lot of stuff, so definitely ask everything you can think of (although the owner was very accessible to questions either by text or phone). Home should be fogged or fumigated.

We shared this feedback with the owner and he then spoke to one of our Quality Assurance agents and explained the following:

-During the summertime, it's common for there to be more mosquitoes, and these guests lamentably got bitten. But there haven't been any other issues with other insects or pests in the past.
-These guests arrived at an inconvenient time and experienced unfortunate circumstances. Just a few days prior to their arrival, the owner had completed major renovation works in the apartment (they had installed a new bathroom.) Two days before the guests' arrival, a hose in the newly renovated bathroom burst and caused a massive flood in the house. Most of the damage had been repaired by the time they arrived, but the house was not in optimal condition.
-Due to the flood, the light fixtures had gotten wet and had been set outside to dry, resulting in exposed wires in the ceiling.
-The owners were still rearranging things upstairs, which unfortunately resulted in some noise to the floor below.
-In regards to the "pest repellent noise maker", these were actually dehumidifiers that were on the entire time in order to dry out a lot of the items that was still wet from the flood.
-In regards to the circuit breakers tripping, because this is an older home, the circuit breakers do indeed trip if multiple appliances are run simultaneously. Tenants must be attentive to use only certain appliances at a given time.

The owner was apologetic about the fact that these guests didn't have the nicest possible stay and said he tried to accommodate them as best he could.
