Located in the middle of the uptown Manhattan neighborhood of Harlem, this three bedroom apartment is on the top floor of a 3-story (equivalent to the European 2-story) classic walk-up townhouse, from which you can enjoy both northern and southern exposures. The building features secured access through doorbell with an interior security system.
Depending on the season, this apartment can be rented as a 3-bedroom vacation rental, or monthly, as either a private sublet of the entire unit or as a roommate share situation, where a bedroom is rented and the common areas are shared.
From closets to cupboards and cabinets, this rental offers plenty of storage space, as well as charming relics from the original construction, such as decorative fireplaces and floor-to-ceilings windows. Each bedroom has its own closet as well as a window to allow in natural light. The living area is simply but warmly decorated and its two windows facing south offer view on the gardens. It features the basic kitchen appliances to cook your own meals, with a sink, two electric hot plates, a toaster over, a mini-refrigerator, among others. There is a small table that can seat up to 2 guests and a folding table is stored in the closet to accommodate more people. Extra chairs can be provided upon request to the owner.
This apartment is also welcoming to children and infants as baby supplies (crib and toys) and even baby-sitting services are available (for a fee). The owner also offers walking tours of Harlem, pointing out the benefits of the area. In the summer, air conditioning units can be installed for an additional nightly fee.
Situated between the 123rd Street and Lenox Avenue, this three bedroom apartment is in a great location for enjoying lots of activities and attractions. Found in a central part of the area, several restaurants are just around the corner or even across the street. Around the corner on Lenox Avenue, you have famous NYC landmarks such as the Lenox Lounge and Red Rooster restaurant. On your very corner, give Tonnie’s Minis bakery a try and enjoy a wide range of cupcakes! Walk two blocks and you arrive on the 125th Street shopping corridor, where former President Bill Clinton has situated his office, with its numerous shops and stores. No need to go any further if you want to take a break from the hectic life of New York: the Marcus Garvey Park and its swimming-pool are just around the corner, at the end of your very block!
PLEASE NOTE that is a strictly NON-SMOKING apartment.
On the other side of the park, you will reach the Helene Fuld College of Nursing within 1500 feet. The City College of New York and the famous Columbia University are both just in a 0.8 mile (1.3km) radius from your building entrance, less than 10 blocks away! If you want to hit the central Manhattan or to commute any further, you are less than 3 blocks from from the closest subway station, the 125th St station, serving the 2 and 3 lines, with the 4/5/6 station about 6 blocks away, and the A/B/C/D lines also on 125th St, next to the AMC Magic Johnson Harlem movie theater, just 5 blocks away!
Please note that because the building dates back to 1909, its floors and fixtures look worn.

Typical New Yorker apartment located on the top floor, so there is no entrance door, but every bedroom is locked. Well-located in Harlem. Quiet and secure neighborhood, next to shops, subway station and restaurants. Cleanliness is average but okay. Bathroom does not lock (the door handle is broken and there is no lock!!!). Basic shower. Bed linen is only average but sheets and quilts are very clean. Major inconvenience: windows are very old and not waterproof. The cold wind makes them banging and infiltrate the apartment. Shutters are only in one of the 3 bedrooms. |

Thanks for your review. We didn't know that there was missing cutlery or glasses in the kitchen, there are many extras in the storage closet right next to the kitchen but since we were unaware we weren't able to tell you where to find them during your stay. We ask that all guests text the number we leave on the fridge in the case that anything is missing. We also didn't know that the bathroom lock was broken -- if you told us during your stay we could have fixed it right away. If we aren't aware of issues we can't help you! This is an old apartment in an historic building. Our windows are old, the floors are old. We charge an extremely low rate for 8 guests to stay in a safe building on the subway line in Manhattan, and our rate reflects the fact that this is an old apartment. We recommend that guests who have extremely high standards spend more money for more luxurious accommodations. This is a budget rental at a budget price, and we do not pretend to be anything different than that. Guests who are happy with our apartment are guests who are looking for safe accommodation in a great location and at a great price. Hopefully that's how Habitat is marketing our place because that is certainly how we describe it. |

First of all, the cleanliness of the place could definitely be improved. Some of the sheets really didn't smell very fresh & inviting. But the biggest drawback of the apartment was the fact that there is no door separating the apt. from the hallway. We were not able to lock the apt. itself, only some of the individual rooms. However, it was not possible to lock the living room at all. This is something that should be noted in the description of the apt.! |

We appreciate your review, Stefan. We always provide clean sheets. We use unscented detergent because it is environmentally friendly. While some guests may prefer stronger floral scents, we think it is important to continue to use unscented soaps. Most guests and we prefer that but I'm always happy to supply different sheets if guests contact me to request them. |

We spent a great week in this apartment in Harlem, this is really a very nice neighborhood and literally two steps away from Central Park. Harlem residents are friendly. |

We really enjoyed having this guest stay with us. We agree with their comments about our neighborhood -- we love our friendly and vibrant neighborhood! Just to be clear, though -- we are just steps from the lovely Mt. Morris Park, not Central Park (Central Park is 13 short blocks away -- an easy and lovely walk). |

This is a well located appartment. Not really clean. There is a lot of missing items such as dishes, towels, paper. |

We stock the apartment with 6 plates, silverware, etc. and usually that is plenty. If this guest told us that he needed more of anything we would have happily brought it over. |

Thank you for this useful review which gave us the opportunity to communicate with the owner and to modify our description to better convey the fact that this is an old apartment. |

The apartment was fine; the location was perfect for me. |

I am thankful for the review. We enjoyed having this guest stay with us. Regarding the floor/pillows, we will raise these issues to our housekeeper to make sure that she does a better job next time. She usually is perfect so we aren't sure what happened this time! |
