Description
1 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Saint-Germain des Prés (PA-2301)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom, 1 Half Bathroom - Sleeps 3

From world-class shopping, great art gallery scene and some of the finest restaurants in the world, to the vast green spaces and cozy cafes of the Jardin du Luxembourg, the 6th arrondissement has it all! From this one bedroom vacation rental located at Rue d'Assas and Rue de Fleurus, many famous Paris attractions will be a short walk away and you will be only a few steps away from the luxembourg Gardens! The apartment lies on the third floor (4th for Americans) of a building with coded system, intercom and an elevator. Please note: the elevator is small, with room for one person and one piece of luggage per trip.

Lined with parquet floors and equipped with double glazed windows overlooking the street, this accommodation is simply furnished, but has all the essentials to make your stay in Paris comfortable. The living room features a dining table, two sofas of which one is a futon sofa bed, a stereo and a TV with international cable channels. The kitchen is equipped with electric hotplates (no oven), a microwave and a folding table. A washer can be found in the bathroom and wireless Internet is available.

The main advantage of this apartment is its location. It puts you right in the heart of the city, close to everything, making it the perfect location for vacationers!  Here are some of the numerous places of interest that you will find in the area:

  • Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens): located only 170m (.1 mile) away, it is probably the most popular park in Paris, where locals and tourists go to relax. Simply grab one of the many chairs, take it where you want to sit and admire the beauty the Palace that the park hosts and its surrounding beautiful gardens!
  • The Pantheon: cross the park to get to this historic monument, which is the last resting place of famous French personalities, such as Voltaire, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jean Moulin, Emile Zola, Victor Hugo and more!
  • The Latin Quarter and Saint Michel : walk-up Boulevard St. Michel (900m / about 1 mile) until you reach the quays of the river Seine and you will pass many cafes, bookstores as well as the reknown Sorbonne University.
  • Saint-germain Des Pres : bordering St. Michel to the west, it is one of Paris most upscale neighborhoods, filled with designer boutiques, as well as an artistic hub, with some of the city's most prestigious art galleries and museums, such as the Musee d Orsay (1.6 km / 1mile).

Another great perk of this apartment is its easy access to public transporation:

  1. Notre-Dame-des-Champs station: it is served by line 12 of the Paris Metro.
  2. Saint-Placide : served by line 4 that runs north-south through Paris 1st arrondissement.
  3. Gare Montparnasse: walk 800m (.5 miles) to this train station and you will find 2 other subway lines as well as the TGV (French high speed train) connecting Paris and other cities in western France!

The apartment is in sad shape with layers of dust on shelves, behind furniture etc.
It does not sleep 3 as stated, as the 3rd bed is a futon in the tiny living room which even the owner had trouble assembling. It is very heavy and unless you plan to visit a chiropractor the next day, stay away from it. The tub/shower combo is unsafe to get in and out of as it is 3 feet off the ground! I emailed the owner about putting in a hold bar so you have something to hold on to when it is slippery. She dismissed my suggestion. My daughter and I and 2 guests found it to be very unsafe because of the height. The owner keeps her personal goods at the property in four 2 ft by 2ft square boxes in the kitchen and 10 shoe boxes in the toilet room. She stated that these were for her use only and not to touch them as she likes to come and use the apartment herself sometimes. Since the apartment is very tiny, we thought this was a strange thing to impose on your guests who need every inch of room for themselves. Also, before she had our deposit, she said she would meet us to show us around the apartment and teach us about the WIFI, upon our arrival. My daughter needs WIFI at all times since she is in high school and doing her studies remotely online. After the owner had the deposit she told us she would leave the keys at a pharmacy and would see us 3 days after our arrival. The apartment was stone cold and damp-ish when we arrived and we were able to find the 2 heaters that were for the entire 4 rooms. However, we did not know how to open the exterior shutters being silly AMerican women and so for 3 days we lived in near darkness in the living room and bedroom except for a few small lamps (the kitchen and bath/toilet were well lit) I think too that the apartment looks unrealistic in the photos. The furniture is old and some is broken in the living room. Very Very disappointed too that the WIFI kept going in and out and caused us to visit many internet cafes for my daughter to get her school work done. I made it very clear that was one of my highest priorities was to be getting an apartment with WIFI when I spoke to NY Habitat. One great thing is that there is a laundromat right below the building. The washing machine in the apt has such a small capacity that we bypassed it. Last but not least, is safety. One day I was using the toaster and suddenly black billowing smoke started comng out of the outlet (where the toaster plugs in). The smoke was about 6 inches in height. I quickly unplugged the toaster and it stopped the smoke. From then on, whenever we slept or went out, I made sure that everything in the apartment was unplugged. I own rental properties myself here in Washington state and I want my renters to be safe. I knew if I told the owner she would either blame me for the smoke or dismiss it so I just counted the days until we could leave that apartment. We loved Paris, but as far as the apartment---NON!
