Apartment Rental: 4 months

The apartment was found in a less than clean condition. The Internet was not at all reliable and often not available for days at a time, which was completely inconvenient for students - the owner referred us to FREE INTERNET which was next to worthless. Upon arrival the washing machine did not work but eventually was fixed. The bathtub located in the loft leaked into the living space below on more than one occasion and took days to repair each time forcing the occupants to bathe in the homes of friends. The sink in the kitchen also became unusable. The owner accessed the apartment during our absence without permission and cleaned the apartment and disposed of some of our belongings - we did thank him just the same and sent him 100 Euro reimbursement even though we did not ask for his services.

In the middle of our stay the owner attempted to extract a second Security Deposit from us until we reminded him that we had already given him 1450 Euro as Security Deposit. The owner took offense to a party that was held at the end of our stay - we apologized for any inconvenience we caused his neighbors and hired a cleaning services that provided a Deep Clean to the apartment upon our departure. We paid the owner for any and all damages to the property and yet the owner of the apartment saw fit to charge us for 9 additional days stay when it was only 5 days (Lease began on Jan 25th and we departed on the 30th of the last month's stay) and refused to reimburse us when this fact was pointed out. From a Security Deposit of 1450 Euro he retained almost 1000 Euro. I would not recommend this apartment or owner to my worst enemy.

Company Review: Jean-Philippe Blaise of NYHabitat was a pleasure to work with. He was very helpful and understanding and provided as much information as possible especially when the apartment owner did not cooperate by sending a Lease to us prior to payment and arrival at the apartment - we did not receive a readable Lease until several months later. Unfortunately our experience with the owner of the apartment was not good and after paying a fee of more than $1200 to NYHabitat we expected to be dealing with a better quality individual and to have a better experience than we had. Therefore I cannot say that we are inclined to use the service again as we can probably find an apartment owner in Paris to rip us off all on our own. We hope that you will share our experience with this apartment owner with his next possible victim so there are no surprises . . . we were told that there had been no complaints from his previous renters, I now find that very hard to believe.

Lucas and Gregory, I am sorry if you did not enjoy your stay in my apartment. The cleaning company came to clean it before your arrival. I never had any issues with them in 4 years. In order to enhance the Internet connection after your arrival, I switched to another provider (you did not talk about that in your review).

I am also sorry about the bathtub blockage, it never happened before. I fixed the damages as soon as I could (and I did not charge anything for them). The kitchen sink, as well as the counter top, had to be replaced after your departure since they were damaged.

When I came into the apartment, it was only to keep it in a good living condition. I am sorry if it bothered you. I always do my best to make my guests comfortable, but in the future, I will inform them beforehand. In order to keep the apartment in good condition and welcoming, I had to spend much more than a month's rental. This is why I asked for an extra deposit, but as it was not mentionned in our agreement, I was wrong and I apologized for it.
