Description
1 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Chelsea (NY-12100)
1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps 2

This elegant one bedroom apartment for rent in Chelsea is spacious and well-furnished, occupying 800sqf (approximately 74 sqm) of a pre-war brownstone walk-up building off of 19th Street and 9th Avenue. It is situated on the first floor (ground floor for Europeans) and provides easy accessibility for guests. Within the heart of Chelsea, this apartment is set in one of NYC’s most appealing areas and is perfect for those who want to discover the in’s and out’s of New York City culture. An intercom system is available for your convenience and a private key is given to you upon arrival. The attractive apartment building resides on a mostly residential street and can provide a peaceful homecoming after a long day or night. This city never sleeps- but you will!

Upon entering this NYC abode you will see the living room to your right and bathroom to your left. Brick walls line every room of the apartment, giving the home character and a vintage atmosphere. The living room is classically embellished with bookshelves and artwork on the walls. A couch, chaise, and wing chair set allow for the accommodation of guests and a dining table with two chairs sit in front of an entrancing fireplace. Also in the living room is a desk with a lamp and chair, and a coffee table in front of the couch. Large windows face the bustling city streets and allow for extra lighting and fresh air. An area rug lies over the dark wooden floors and a mirror hangs from a corner wall. The kitchen is open and attached to the living room, nicely equipped with an oven, fridge, freezer, toaster and microwave. It is located directly next to the long hallway extending to the bedroom, upon which a larger dining table with three chairs resides. The bedroom sits at the bottom of a long hallway and does not include a door, but is efficiently separated from the rest of the apartment. It is 250sqf or 23sqm, considered commodious in NYC, and features a queen sized bed facing a second fireplace. It matches its accompanying quarters with its elegant accessories: featuring mirrors, some artwork, and a dresser drawer for storing personal belongings. Large windows face north and view the colorful garden. The bathroom is on the left of the entrance door and features a tub with a handheld shower head and a cabinet above the sink for stocking personal-hygiene necessities.

Chelsea is a popular area of New York City favored by locals and tourists alike. Though much of it is residential, it is also home to many diverse retail businesses as well as art galleries, bars, and eclectic shops. The famed Hotel Chelsea, run-down and dingy in its former life, is walking distance from the home and is known for housing such notable residents as Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Patti Smith, Sid Vicious and many more…before they made it big! Just one street away from your awaiting accommodation is the High Line, an elevated 1 mile (1.6km) linear park built on the West Side Line of the former New York Central Railroad, and a must-visit tourist attraction offering an unusually calm landscape in New York. For shopping after a restful walk, the Alexander McQueen store is located just next to the High Line. Also available in the area is the Chelsea Market, Jack Shainman art gallery, Clement Clark Moore Park, Limelight (the infamous hotspot of the early 90’s club kids), Rubin art museum, Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theatre for a night of stand-up comedy, Chelsea Flower Market, and numerous historic churches.

A variety of public transportation options are nearby the apartment, including the 1 & 2 trains at 18th Street & 7th Avenue, the 1 & 2 trains at 23rd Street & 7th Avenue, and the C, E, and A trains at 23rd Street & 8th Avenue. These subways will take you anywhere in Manhattan, ensuring you a comfortable tour of the Big Apple.

Great location in Chelsea. The bedroom down the hall in back of building is ideal, quiet for sleeping. Very close to the High Line Park and Chelsea Market. Owner and representative responsive and easy to deal with.

The apartment itself and the location are terrific. It has great style and gorgeous furniture. Unfortunately, it's a bit neglected, unkempt and too full. The apartment urgently needs a good clearing out and thorough cleaning, then it certainly could be offered at a higher price.
I met the landlady on the last day and I found her very friendly!

Thanks Barbara for the review. I am surprised you felt the place was unkempt and neglected, my previous guests have always appreciated all the furniture and things that are provided in the apartment. I have the housekeeper come and clean the please after every guest, and she usually spends 8-10 hours making sure the place is spotless for the next guest. It was a pleasure hosting you and hope you can come again.

Probably better for someone younger. Problems-layout, with bathroom at entrance away from bedroom, the wiring is scary, the furnishings are old and in the living room pretty uncomfortable, place is pretty dark. In short not particularly good to spend time in. They need to get the utilities in working order before the tenant arrives. WiFi had to be set up, landline didn't work, etc.

Robert, I am surprised you found the apartment dark when I provide 2 floor lamps that can easily be moved and desk lamps all over the apartment. As for the furnishings, they are period pieces that are meant to be both comfortable and charming and people always tell me how much they like them. There is really nothing I can do about the layout, it was something that was shown to you in the floor plan on the apartment page of the website. The only wiring I can think of that you may be referring to is a dead alarm system in the closet and I wish you would have told me about it during your stay so I could have reassured you that it is nothing to worry about. I didn't know there was an issue with the landline until you mentioned it and when I called the company they did not see a problem at first but then when the problem was discovered it was fixed; the issue was not in the apartment but from the basement. The wifi is set up but requires a call to the cable company so they can give u access. Its a simple process of making one call to the company and if you would have called me to tell me about it I would have happily provided you with the number to call and all the account information.

the space, the bedroom overlooking a garden, the peace and quiet....

We really liked the apartment and the location was wonderful - central yet residential. The apartment was spacious and beautifully decorated. The loft allowed a little space for having visitors for a weekend, which was nice. Some of the equipment was not in a great condition, but it worked for us. Also, it was very easy and pleasant to do business with the landlady and -lord downstairs (or actually they were landlady's family members). Sometimes it was loud (emergency vehicles, school across the street, people talking in the courtyard), but often moving to the other room helped (and can New York be really quiet?). The place felt like home and we are happy to recommend it to further customers.
