Description
2 Bedroom Apartment Rental in Upper West Side (NY-6959)
2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

LOCATION: New York City (Upper West Side), 83rd Street between West End Avenue and Riverside Drive.

SIZE: 2 bedrooms (one master, one convertible study), 1 bath, approximately 900 square feet, sleeps three to four, depending on use of the convertible sofa in the study.

BUILDING: This New York apartment is located on the top floor of a six-story, 19th-century building, with an elevator. There is a standard buzzer intercom system; there is no doorman. There is a coin-operated laundry in the basement.

INTERIOR: Flooded with full sun in every room, this beautiful and unusual apartment is like a country home in the city. It is also one of the quietest apartments in New York, situated on an exceptionally tranquil, tree-lined block virtually across the street from Riverside Park, where there is a recently renovated children's playground; the 79th Street boat basin, with an intimate, open-air riverbank café, restaurant and bar open from April through October; and, at the edges of the Hudson River, a magnificent promenade, bike and jogging path that spans virtually the entire west side of Manhattan, from the George Washington Bridge to Battery Park. The apartment has sun-drenched exposures-south, north, and east-from every room in the apartment. Its vaulted ceilings are 9 feet high, with beautiful rounded corners rather than right angles leading from one room to the next.

The living room has a large working fireplace, a fine upright piano, Oriental carpeting, a coffee table, and a leather sofa and chairs comfortably seating six. Two windows face the street, with full sun and sky views from morning till night (the building across the street is the same height). There is a superb stereo system, including a CD player and cassette deck, as well as a library containing more than six hundred CD's ranging from classical to pop to jazz as well as dozens of film scores. The living room also contains a fax machine.

The foyer leading to and adjoining the living room has an elegant dining table that seats four in its closed position, with two easily added leaves that transform it to a size that can comfortably seat ten. The superb kitchen is a cook's dream, with a double width stainless steel sink, a stainless steel SubZero refrigerator with two freezer compartments including an icemaker, a full size dishwasher, microwave, stove and oven, and floor-to-ceiling cabinets containing every and anything any chef or host might need to prepare meals ranging from the basic to the most complex. The kitchen also features a sliding French door that can separate it from the rest of the apartment, and completely eliminates any dishwasher noise that might otherwise be heard after meals.

The apartment is owned by an author and editor and contains a magnificent library ranging from fiction to nonfiction, history, biography and art books.

The master bedroom contains a full-sized bed and a 27-inch Proton television with all basic cable channels and a Sony VCR, an illuminated walk-in closet, and full supply of linens and towels. The study/second bedroom contains a brand new sofa, convertible into a queen-sized bed that comfortably sleeps two. The study features gracious French doors that close for privacy and quiet.

The bathroom has a bathtub with a shower. All linens are provided.

One flight up from the apartment, and for the exclusive use of the occupants of the apartment, is a glorious roof deck with a magnificent view overlooking the Hudson River, New Jersey and the Manhattan skyline-truly a unique rooftop paradise.

The neighborhood is located in the heart of New York's hottest neighborhood the Upper West Side. The finest food and shopping in Manhattan is located just blocks away, featuring the "triple crown of the famous Zabars Food Emporium, Fairway Market (world-class produce), and Citarella, a world-class butcher and fish market. Riverside Park is across the street, and Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, the Planetarium, and the Delacorte Theatre (Shakespeare in the Park), are but a few minutes' walk from the apartment.
