Here is a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom furnished apartment in New York’s Midtown West neighborhood.
This 220-square-foot (around 20 m2) Manhattan furnished rental sits on the second floor (equivalent to the first floor in Europe) and is located near the corner of 40th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues. In the apartment, you will find a kitchen providing a stainless-steel refrigerator, freezer, and oven, as well as a microwave, toaster, coffee machine, and dining area. The bedroom includes a double-size bed, a television, closet space, and air conditioning. These two rooms–the main room and bedroom–have hardwood flooring. The bathroom features a shower with a built-in bathtub.
Madame Tussauds New York is three blocks from the apartment, where wax sculptures of celebrities and other famous figures are on display. Two blocks away is the Nederlander Theater, an iconic Broadway performance center showcasing the latest and greatest shows for over a century. Just beyond these, only 0.4 miles (around 650 meters) from the apartment is Times Square! Acting as a lawn for the New York Public Library’s main branch, Bryant Park is a popular 4-acre (around 0.2 km2) green space also 0.4 miles (around 650 meters) from the rental. Equidistant to the apartment is Madison Square Garden, one of the world’s most iconic arenas that hosts various concerts and sporting events.
The 42nd Street and 7th Avenue subway station is 0.3 miles (around 500 meters) from the apartment and runs the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, and S lines. Another option is the 42nd Street and 8th Avenue: Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is 0.1 miles (around 150 meters) from the rental. It runs the A, C, and E lines.

The apartment was great! I stayed with my boyfriend and it was the perfect size. I was also surprised by how I couldn't hear the traffic at all from inside (considering it is NYC) and slept very well. The location is very convenient with transit being seconds away. The inside is also supplied with lots of amenities - cooking cutlery, a toaster, a smoothie blender(!) and a hairdryer. |

Generally it was a good Apartment once we got inside. We did have to purchase a block out curtain for the bathroom as there was nothing provided and as a result no privacy. With regard to the location of the Apartment for access to other areas of Manhattan it was certainly excellent both by way of walking, Port Authority Bus Terminal directly across the street, Taxi Stand and available Taxis on 8th Avenue just at the end of the block, etc. Unfortunately I must say that the entrance to the Apartment building startled me, it was not what I expected at all although there was a barred door and then another entrance door. And then once we got beyond that there was another door that lead out into what was deemed as a courtyard and then through yet another door to get to the actual Apartment. That was startling for me especially for a young lady living alone. There were drug addicts and the like directly outside and on occasion harassed my daughter. The experience on her first day living there was horrendous to the point where she had to duck into a store to avoid the individual who was harassing and following her. Another experience she had whilst awaiting her lyft ride to the grocery store and laundromat was a couple of gentlemen one of which was snorting cocaine and another throwing up all in front of the building. Because there is a liquor store next to the Apartment Building then there were those who patronized it that congregated around the front of the Building. A few times we had to ask them to excuse us so that we could get in or out of the building. There were also a few homeless people that slept in front of the building. When I first brought it to the attention of the Building Maintenance person he advised that there were police located right across the street which I do appreciate however they clearly do not make these people move. This made it very uncomfortable for both us and my daughter who was living there. For men I believe it would be fine but for women not so as like I aforementioned the men outside harass from time to time. One of the other things I did not appreciate was us being asked to discard used toilet paper in the bathroom trash can rather than to flush it down the toilet, whether it was bowel waste or urine. You do not expect to pay for a rental place and be asked to do that at any point in time and I refused to allow my daughter to subject herself to doing so. Admittedly refusing to do so and utilizing the toilet the way it is designed to be used proved to have no problems at all so I am unsure as to why it was requested otherwise. Lastly, because of the thin walls and doors the noise of people walking up or down the stairs was distracting and disturbing as well as the noise coming from the apartment above my daughter to the point where she had to ask by way of a note for them to please consider her below them. Because of that she was kind enough to ask the person in the apartment below her if she was noisy to which he said no and she advised him to please let her know at any point if she walked to heavily or whatever the case may be so that she could be more considerate that the persons above her. Outside of the aforementioned the Apartment itself was perfect for her purpose of being there but I sincerely would have another look at another place if the cause should arise again. |
