Studio Apartment in Saint-Germain des Prés (PA-2402)
Studio, 1 Bathroom - Sleeps

This lovely St. Germain apartment is located on the 1st floor of a 16th century walk up building with a security system in the 6th arrondissement. It is southeast exposed and looks out onto the street. The furnished apartment can accommodate one person for long term or two people for short term as there is a single bed as well as an extra inflatable mattress available.

Half-timbered walls, 2.8m high ceilings, and genuine beams contrast with the white painting and nice tiled floor. Spanning 11m2, this studio has a window screened by short curtains and Venetian blinds. The 11m2 living room is fitted out with a 90cm wide single bed set down on large drawers, a small rectangular dining table with wrought iron legs, a recessed bench and one chair, a closet, a display window dresser, a wall mounted desk, a TV, and a stereo standing on the wall shelves.

Equipped with two electric burners, a mini electric oven, a hood with exhaust fan, a fridge, an electric kettle and coffee maker, the open kitchen has a little tiled worktop, and a white ceramic sink, two cupboards and drawers containing some of the tableware and utensils pieces. The small but charming bathroom has half-cork half-tile walls, a shower, a white ceramic washbasin, a toilet, and a window.

Situated between rue Mazarine and rue Christine, this furnished rental is in one of the most attractive and historic areas of the Left Bank, world famous Saint Germain des Prés! The neighborhood is home to a collection of high-fashion shops and the famous Cafés Deux Magots and Café de Flore, favorite haunts of existentialists and expatriate literary stars. It also boasts the oldest restaurant in Paris - Le Procope - with French traditional specialties and excellent fresh seafood, patronized by Voltaire in the 18th century. Foodies will love having the traditional Marché Buci nearby, an open-air market with fresh produce and specialty goods.

The closest metro stations are Odéon (Line 4, 10) and Mabillon (line 10).

The big draw of this place is the location. The 6th arrondissement is beautiful and it's close to everything you need. However, the apartment no longer looks the way it does in photos (they have renovated), and there is no longer a bathtub, just a very tiny shower. The staircase is VERY cramped, making moving suitcases very difficult. There are also no smoke/fire alarms in the building, which made me nervous. The apartment itself is again, VERY small, but it works for one person. I would not recommend staying here as a couple since the bed is extremely small.
Overall the owner was nice and somewhat helpful, although she dismissed my concerns over fire safety, saying that "those kinds of fires don't happen here"... which isn't true. She also got very annoyed when it took me longer than expected to get from the airport to the apartment (she only gave me 2 hours after my flight landed), and left the apartment. I didn't have a way to contact her since my cell phone was Canadian and not yet equipped to work in France. It was a bit of a stressful way to arrive. Things did improve as she credited me for a smoke detector that I purchased and was very easy-going about the process of me moving out, so overall she was a good landlord. It could have been much worse!

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review about your experience in our studio located in rue Dauphine. I am glad that you enjoyed the neighborhood, in the heart of one of the most animated and sought-after ancient area of Paris. Indeed, the shower room has been entirely redone before your arrival and, for this occasion, the bathtub was replaced with a more functional shower. You were then the first one to use this brand new installation. New York Habitat's website will be updated in due course (with new description and picture of th e shower room). This studio is located in a 17th century building. It is an old charm building, typical of Paris, but in compliance with the applicable housing quality standards. The description provided on New York Habitat's website does not hide its size and mentions the fact that this studio is meant for one person only. The place (and the 1-meter large bed) seemed even more smaller as you stayed with someone else during a few weeks. However, I regret that the rest of your comment contains several inaccuracies: - your arrival: contrary to what you told, your flight (AF 0351) arrived at 7.50, that is 10 minutes earlier than your scheduled arrival time. I waited for you until 11.50, that is 4 hours (and not 2) after the plane landed. As I was unable to reach you, I thought that you missed your flight, so I came back home to see if you did not leave a message. You called me at that time, telling me that you finally arrived in rue Dauphine. I went back immediately to the studio to welcome you and give you the keys. - Canadian cell phones are working properly in France, so you could have informed me about your delayed arrival. - fire: I definitely never told you that there were no fire risks in Paris! As you were worried, I only pointed out that the studio was overlooking the street and that being located on the first floor, you were unlikely to be stuck in the building in case of fire. - smoke detectors: unfortunately, the one that was in the studio disappeared during renovation works that took place before you arrived. In order to save time, I offered you to buy a new one and to subtract its price from your next rental (which you did). Strangely, you concluded your comment with this sentence "overall, she is a good landlord. It could have been much worse!". I don't quite understand this remark but, to conclude, we are happy that you finally enjoyed your stay in rue Dauphine as you wished to extend your stay (which was unfortunately not possible as the studio was already booked as usual).

I had a great stay. It is more than furnished - I didn't have to buy one single appliance or bedding for my 4-month stay. Single air mattress worked well when I had guests. Building and apartment are old (no lobby at all) and so a few things in need of upgrading/repair but landlord was doing some of this as I left.

Room is small but perfectly laid out. Window seat is fabulous especially in the summer. There is a heater that works really quickly and room retains its heat well. Lots of storage and space for big items like a suitcase. Not very loud even though it's a fairly busy street.

Location was AMAZING, there is a velib bike rack down the side alley, 2 mins to river (and Pont Neuf bridge and metro) and Odeon metro station along with the shops, restaurants, and movie theaters at Odeon. Cute pedestrian cafe-lined Rue de Buci right there. Great boulangerie right beneath the studio. Easy walk to attractions like Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Marais.

Owner was very easy to deal with and easy to reach via phone and email when I needed her.

Corinne, thanks a million for your very positive comments on your 4 month rental of our studio apartment. We are really happy to hear you enjoyed it that much. You are mentioning that the building is old. It actually dates back to 1672 and the plate on the building front specifies that it is the location of Porte Dauphine (Dauphine Gate) that was built in 1639 when Dauphine street was extended beyond Philippe Auguste wall.

You will understand that in such a 'historical' building, it is forbidden to make the slightest alteration to the premises, such as fitting in a lobby!

I think you're referring to small repair works has to do with changing the kitchen sink and faucets, which we did after your departure.

The best feature of this apartment is that it has the BEST location. You really couldn't get a better one: it's 2 mins walk from Odeon metro which is on line 4 and is well connected to the rest of the metro system, it is surrounded by amazing bars and restaurants.

It is also surrounded by amazing little art galeries which are so great to go and visit on a Sunday. There is a Carrefoure about 3 mins walk away. Really the location is just fantastic. If you are also looking for a part time job there is a creperie close by on rue st Andreas des Arts called Creperie St Andreas Des Arts and they hire casual waitresses and all the waitresses that work there are students and mostly foreigners.

The apartment can get quite noisy as the street below is busy. It is a little difficult to cook in the apartment as it doesn't have a built in stove/oven just small appliances. There is also very little space to cook and clean.

The apartment IS very small but it is beautiful and cozy and for a short stay it is perfect but for something long term the difficulty in cooking and entertaining is a downfall.

Thank you for your comments Katherine; I am delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay.

This studio is indeed in an ideal location, in the very lively neighborhood of Saint Germain des Pres which is the most sought after neighborhood in Paris, and therefore the most expensive one! If the studio were a few square meters larger, the rent would be much higher!

Yet it has a small bathroom with tub, a fitted out kitchen cabinet: hot plate, electric oven, fridge, coffee machine etc, as is stated in the apartment description. It is a few steps from a university cafeteria where students can have lunch or dinner for 3 euros! And all possible stores nearby.

It is a short distance to the Sorbonne, the School of Political Science, cinemas etc...

Thank you so much for your review! The apartment does not have a real oven and we will make sure that this information is clear for the next guests. We greatly appreciate your feedback.

This studio is truly the perfect place to stay when in Paris. Its amazing St Germain location means that you can be anywhere in Paris in twenty minutes.

A lovely little place to live, perfect for one person. It can be noisy, particularly at the weekend as it's situated on a small but lively road. The landlady was incredibly kind and helpful throughout the duration of my 9 month stay.
