I had a really good time in this apartment with Shawn who is an excellent host. The room is very pleasant, the kitchen and bathroom always clean. The organization is remarkable.
The only negative point (very slight) is the heating when it gets cold, it takes a little while to kick in but it works very well once it has.

Very much enjoyed my stay there. It is conveniently located to get fast to downtown Manhattan (about 20-25 Minutes to columbus circle with the A train from 168th St. station).

I felt warmly welcomed in the apartment and found a very good friend in the main tenant. The neighbors are sometimes a bit noisy, but I experienced that in my half year there only a few times. The apartment windows are located away from the street so you don?t usually hear much of the traffic either. The neighborhood offers anything you need for day to day needs. There is a rather big and for NYC cheap grocery store in 5 minute walking distance and a lot of small shops even closer.

All in all I can highly recommend the apartment for anyone who?s going to work in Manhattan!

Hope I could help, even though it is a very late answer.

Christoph

The main tenant is now a very good friend of mine -- after just 9 months, that is saying something! He and I hit it off from the start: common standards, interests, etc. The building and location are what they are.

At times a bit dirty and loud, but that's life in the big city. I felt safe, welcome, and was very happy during my time in Washington Heights!

Thanks, Nicholas! You were a terrific housemate and a pleasure to have around, and I'm very delighted to have played a part in your stay in New York. Your description of the location is very accurate.

The area is high-traffic, close to shopping, subways, churches and schools. Some noise and litter are to be expected. Also, the area is ethnically, culturally and economically diverse, so the very things that make it exciting can also be sources of annoyance, especially in the warmer seasons when the streets are super-busy and windows are wide open.

And, as you say, This is New York.

I had a nice stay in this apartment, there was everything I needed. At first sight it looked far away from downtown, but you can get the A express subway at the 168th Street station (just a few minutes walking from the apartment) and be in less than 30 minutes Downtown. Also if the neighborhood is not wonderful, it's not a problem.

But the most important thing for me (as a French for some months in NYC) was my roommate (the owner). He was always ready to talk and I learned a lot about the States with him. He really wants to have good relationships as long as you too.

So five stars for the roommate.

I'm very happy that the building-related issues that we were plagued with all summer long, from the malfunctioning elevator to the front-door problems, didn't completely dampen your experience here, as you were a terrific roommate Guillaume!

Washington Heights has many advantages. The location is ideal, just three blocks from the express A train and the number 1 trains into Midtown, in less than 20 minutes. Late evenings are also complicated by train delays, etc., but that is inevitable in New York.

There's also decent shopping and services. While unlike the Village or Williamsburg, cool neighborhoods that are more to a young person's liking, Washington Heights is more residential in feel, and here there are parks and the Hudson River just a short walk away.
