About: Lower East Side
The Lower East Side is located south of Houston Street and bounded by the East River. The Lower East Side primarily has tenement houses that were constructed in the 1800's as housing for immigrants coming into New York from around the world. Tenements often are well setup for apartment share because of their long layouts.
Little Italy and Chinatown are part of the Lower East Side which have retained their charm since the immigrant groups of the 1800's. Little Italy now just a small bit of what it once was hosts the famous festival of San Gennaro as well as some fabulous Italian restaurants. Chinatown offers a look into Chinese culture in New York with some of the best Chinese food in the city plus food markets, discount shops and more.
Parks in the Lower East Side include Sara Roosevelt Park plus parks lining the East River giving offering unique green space with views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
Rooms for rent are available across the Lower East Side and offer east access to subways. Furthermore, the Lower East Side is just across the East River from Brooklyn making it an ideal spot if you are will be studying or working in Brooklyn but want to live in Manhattan.
