I really enjoyed my stay at this apartment.
The owner is very friendly, nice and helpful. If you have questions, you can always ask her. Besides she gave me some really good suggestions, where to buy cheap food for home.
Another point, what I actually didn't expect at first about that apartment, was the very safe and good neighbourhood. There are everything a person needs, a lot of supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops and the laundry shop is very close to the apartment (just 2 minutes walking).
Also the subway number 1 is very close and subway A,B,C,D are just 8 minutes away from the apartment. So it was really easy for me to get to the places I wanted to go.
My room was clean, same for the kitchen and bathroom, when I arrived and the owner provides bed linens and towels.
My roommates were really friendly and nice, as well. There were never problems with sharing the bathroom.
All in all, I am really happy that I found this really nice apartment, with such nice roommates.
Thank you so much for having me, Maxine!

During my stay, I only saw my roommates but never talked with them. Bad atmosphere in the apartment, which is dirty and badly maintained. Apartment cleaning is done once a month only when the landlady comes in. There are no vacuum cleaner and only a few cleaning products. The bathroom and the restrooms are almost squalid: the shower tap holds thanks to scotch tape, there is not enough space to put your belongings and hot water is sometimes missing. The door does not lock. There are cockroaches in and around the sink, as well as on the kitchen and bathroom walls. Because of them, I had to put all the food in freezer bags. I had to buy some airtight plastic containers. Kitchen is poorly equipped (a few plates and cutlery, etc) and towels are dirty. I never had a meal in the kitchen as it was too dirty. Besides, I cohabited (during more than 2 months) with a mouse which was recalcitrant to all the extermination products I bought. Someone came to disinfect my bedroom but it was useless. Regarding safety, the bedroom door does not lock and the window is broken so that anybody can come in (there is a fire escape). The only positive points (if any) are the proximity to the subway lines, as well as the laundromat and the supermarket. The rental price is not consistent with the service offered.

Dear Caroline it is very unfortunate that your experience in my home was such. It was not brought to my attention that you had so many concerns especially considering my regular tenants have not notified me of the same experience. If you had mentioned that the kitchen was lacking supplies, I would have gladly replaced them.

As for the vermin, I do my constant and very best to exterminate on a monthly basis and I infaticaly ask that people don't leave food in their rooms as the building is old and vermin is common even in the most elabeeratly renovated apartments on this island. I do my best to have guests eat only in my eat-in kitchen rather than in the bedrooms, but I also want to respect roommates' privacy by not interfering with them. Maybe this is the reason you found the ambiance in the apartment too private.

To address the locks on the door I need to be clear that this is in fact my home and I choose to not have locks on my room doors. I choose to live and have others in my home that have integrity and will maintain my home as such. My home is safe, quiet and clean and I have the utmost respect for those that respect my home and maintain the area that is presented to them. I live there and I am safe and feel safe and maintain the safety and warm feeling of others.

Very quiet apartment in a safe location. The owner provided amenities like bedding, towels, dishes, cooking utensils. First time living in NYC and owner was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area.

I strongly recommend this apartment in New York. The roommates are wonderful; the landlord is helpful; the apartment is in good conditions, in a quiet area and close to everything.

I enjoyed staying in the room. The host is very welcoming and friendly and approaches problems quickly. She also has some tips and stories about the area.

The area - even though a bit scatchy at first - was safe (never had any problems) and the subway is within 5 minutes walking distance. The 3 flatmates were easy to get along with and there were no problems with bathroom times :)

I recommend the place to everyone who wants to visit NY and is on a small budget.

Thank you Alexander. It is most helpful to know what areas to concentrate on, I will do my best in correcting those things which I can in order to obtain the highest ratings.

Again, I extend my thanks,

The main issues I had in the apartment were:

I found 2 mice in my room and I had to buy a mouse trap to catch them.
I also had a few issues with the Internet access.
In my room during winter, I couldn't cut the heating off and it was overheated.

Further to this review, we contacted the owner of this apartment who confirmed that she has resolved the issue with the mice and they are no longer in the apartment. They keep the apartment clean and with no open food anywhere. The Internet issue was looked into and the signal is functioning normal. The owner says that it is true, the apartment can get very warm, but they have air conditioning in each room and the windows can also be opened.
