Description
Room for Rent 3 Bedroom apartment in Bedford Stuyvesant (NY-17055)
3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms - Sleeps 2

Everyday there are new developments in Brooklyn. Bedford-Stuyvesant, home to rappers including Jay-Z and Biggie Smalls, was once a different world to the Manhattan skyline we are so familiar with equating to NYC. In the last few years, this neighborhood has seen a complete revitalization with the building of high rises and cafes, charter schools and specialty meat purveyors. This neighborhood was once meant the end of the road, but with a thriving arts and youth culture, it’s undoubtedly where New York progress begins.

This three bedroom apartment for rent is in a low-rise building on Herkimer Street and Albany Avenue, sitting near the border of Crown Heights. From here, you can access all the best of Brooklyn: east to west on the A/C subway line from Kingston-Throop Avenues / Fulton Street Station (0.1mi/230m) only one block away and trendy Williamsburg and Bushwick on the B43 bus line (0.1mi/170m).

The apartment is defined by its warm honey tones décor noted in the hardwood floors, oak cabinets, and gold walls. It is evident that the apartment is well maintained with careful updates which maintain the apartment’s contemporary aesthetic. Each of the bedrooms has two windows which allow for substantial natural light to stream in. Bedroom one also has a private full bathroom.

Bedford Stuyvesant is a large neighborhood and here you will get the best it has to offer. Only two blocks away, expect to get your daily caffeine fix at Sumner Café (0.3mi/400m) and maybe indulge in a French pastry from Baltazar. Head up Tompkins Ave and spend your nights in locally owned businesses such as Peaches Hot House (0.5mi/750m) to nibble on some Southern classics or Lovers Rock (0.4mi/700m) for live music. See the future of New York City and Bed-Stuy arts at the Good Work Gallery (0.3mi/450m). With a strong community and lots of things to do, it will be easy for you to soon call this apartment your home.

If it weren't for my roommates, this would have been more horrible than it was. They were absolutely the best!!
First off, communication with landlord was good. Check-in was a breeze, keys were left in the mailbox for me. He was very responsive to problems or questions, very accommodating to my mother and the fact she is a single parent.
So i begin with my experience while staying here. Mind you i'm a college student from OHIO, doing my third internship in NYC. When my mother & i first arrive, the outside of the building looks rundown. The glass in the screen door is broken, it's wide open. There's several bags of old ads on the ground, a broken TV & the trash bins. My mother seemed to be hyper-ventilating at this point. The whole building smells of "litter box", which now it's me hyper-ventilating (i'm deathly allergic to cats). We make it up to the 3rd floor to where i will be living for 3 1/2 mths. The apartment was clean, my room was nice and clean (HUGE). Don't think the comforter was clean, BUT I brought my own stuff to use anyway. I questioned the fact that there wasn't a shower curtain, rod, nothing in the bathroom. I called the landlord, he stated if i wanted to purchase that stuff, he'll reimburse my mom the money. We did/he did.
My first couple months were great, mind you there's supposed to be a cleaning lady/person that cleans every 2 weeks that we are charged $50 a month for, NEGATIVE!! I think i seen this person a few times maybe, i really couldn't tell what was cleaned (?) The apartment was still dirty to me. There were a couple occasions where my grandmother cleaned the whole apartment , when her and my mom came to visit. My roommates were so estatic, they offered to pay her for doing it. She refused the money of course....
From here I find out we have visitors (mice & roaches), FML/just kill me!!!! It got to a point that i was sending my mother a picture of a dead mouse once a week for the remainder of my stay. This being after the landlord sends an exterminator to the apartment also. Of course, I guess roaches only come out at night, so i never really seen them as much as the mice (which always seemed to be in my freaking room) UGGG!! NOW i know why the whole building smells of "litter box".
Out of the 3 times staying in NYC/Brooklyn, this was the only place that i came in contact with bugs & mice.......Oh, and some guy shot a cop on the street. NYPD had the street closed for a day. BUT i survived. It's NYC for petesake, RIGHT?
Everything needs improved , the whole building (maybe just sell it, tear it down, start from scratch). Sorry, NOT sorry!!!

Hey Alexis glad you and your Mom made it back safe. Don't even know where to begin because most of these problems you addressed are out of our control misleading for instances. The cop shooting actually occurred on Dekalb Ave miles away from Herkimer Street. The bathroom items were removed by previous tenant upon their departure we weren't aware of. And so was the tv which we later disposed. As for the smell and cleanliness if in fact there was a strong cat-like smell you or someone would of brought this to our attention the 3 and half months of your tenure, being that you are indeed allergic to cats. Rest assure you this is a no smoking or pets allowed in the building. The mice is due to the construction next door and behind the building. We are happy the problem was resolved in efficient manner. Thank you for the patient and for staying with us we would definitely boost up the cleaning. All the best in school.

Dear Alexis,
Thank you for your review. We asked the owner regarding the cleaning service. The cleaning staff has changed recently and will come twice a month. He added that clients also need to clean up after themselves.
Thank you again for your commentaries.
Best,

The apartment is nice but would need some basic amenities. Decoration is classic and most of all finishing touches are of poor quality. Pieces of the ceiling fall when it's raining hard.
