Good location and decent studio apartment for a few nights. However, the major issue is the lack of double-glazing, leading to important noise pollution and this as soon as 3.30 am with constant traffic of garbage trucks and others. I would not recommend this apartment for that reason. There is another accommodation on the ground floor, facing courtyard, which should be quieter.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Nov 21 2016

Thank you Veronique for your suggestion about noise. In the city, there can never be a complete silence as there is no window or brick wall that can block out police cars and garbage alarms. That is the whole point of their alarms for any building lover than 40 floors. We will consider your option to reduce noise and maybe offer ear plugs and so forth to make your experience better. Thank you.

It's small but that's NY. Great location in the East Village. Walking distance to great bars, cafes and restaurants. Perfect of a couple and provided alot more flexibility than booking into a hotel for the week. We celebrated our 20th anniversary - we have a wonderful week in NY and the apartment and the East Village were great.

The apartment is very nice: bright, furnished with taste and spacious. It is perfect for two people or a couple with a young child. Tony and Lee have been very kind and helpful, both when we arrived and during our stay. Everything is perfectly planned and the place is very clean. It's been a memorable trip and we'll certainly be back!

We had a wonderful experience staying in this cozy apartment. The owner's representative, Lee, went out of his way to help us and make our stay trouble free. The location in the East Village is very good, with many restaurants and cafes within an easy stroll, and within easy reach of the subway and buses. The stairway makes it unsuitable for people with mobility issues, though.

Hi Fabienne. Thank you for your review. As far a NYC Apartments go, it is on the upper end as far as space for a studio but I am glad the other aspects made up for it. As Friday and Saturday night, it is NYC and like many big city, those are the nights people go out a lot. Thank you for staying with us.

Tony is the best!!! This is my second time visiting New York and I couldn't be happier with the service that we received. Both my partner and I were sick during the trip at different stages and Tony went out of his way to help us out. His understanding of our situation was handled with the up most respect. I would definitely recommend staying here and would even rent this apartment again I was that impressed. The area is easy to navigate to and from with lots of fantastic restaurants within walking distance. This was the best start to our honeymoon and as I said I couldn't fault it.

Comfortable apartment for two people with fantastic comfortable beds, best I have slept in, in my last four months of travelling. Kitchen was a bit of a tight squeeze but manageable. We only made breakfast and reheated. A toast and grill appliance would be very useful. It would be good to have some staples such as oil, some spices, some tea bags and coffee to start us off. The decor and furnishings were very tasteful and the apartment had a very relaxed atmosphere and New York feel about it. Great location with fabulous eateries close by, especially Mighty Quinns. Short pleasant walk to two subway lines made it easy to get to where we were going. The area had a very cosmopolitan feel about it. The owner's representative was very responsive, friendly and accommodating. The cleaning lady did an unbelievable job of tidying up all our stuff. Would recommend this apartment to anybody who wants an Authentic New York stay and experience.

great place to stay. very good location and the apartment has everything you need for a short stay in Manhattan.
The apartment looks better than the pictures and is a good size.
Downsides? The fridge is a bit small and wifi can be a bit erratic, but these are minor issues. The apartment owner and his colleague were very helpful and accommodating (!) when I had a late checkout.
Very good value, I would recommend.

Feb 16 2016

Happy you had a great time. The refrigerator is a medium fridge is a medium size to reflect that our guests come generally for 7 days or less. We chose it for space.
Regarding the Wi-Fi, I am very surprised by your comment. No one has mentioned having an issue with the internet connection. I live in the same building and use the same Wi-Fi and did not have any problem. As for noise, the NYC apartment is different than houses in that you experience more noise than the average house. However, it is part of the experience and I am glad it did not detract from your vacation.

We stayed in New York for 3 weeks and it was fantastic. The owner and his assistant were very nice and very helpful. Lots to do in New York City so we put on our walking shoes and location was good for mostly everything we did, when it wasn't, the subway was around the corner and super cheap. Plenty of food and dry cleaning near by too, which was handy for the length of our stay The only real downside was how loud it could get at any time, night or day ( even at 2 or 3am).

Thank you for staying with us. I am glad you enjoyed it. The apartment faces the street and during the holiday season, there are more people walking outside and staying up later. It is part of the NYC scene. We have tried out best to minimize it but sometimes it is part of the season.

My stay was excellent overall. The location of the apartment is very good, it's at 10 minutes from three subway stations, this is very important when choosing an apartment. The owner was very attentive, he helped us on our arrival and he also allowed us to stay very late in the apartment on the last day because we had a late flight. And everything without making us pay any supplement. We are glad to have had a good experience! Regarding the noise, the apartment is obviously not really quiet but we are talking about New York !!!! And honestly, we could sleep without problems.

The host is present and responsive, very pleasant and helpful. Two hot plates would make things easier. Only one window opens, and having the A/C on for a long time is not ideal (health + noise).

It's very nice to have a toilet set, towels and an information sheet on the neighborhood. Nice to have the sheets washed and the towels changed halfway through the stay. Being able to check in and check out at the time we liked and to find an arrangement for the luggage is a plus.

Hi Emanuelle and Tangi and thank you for your review. It is unfortunate that you could open one window only. We double-checked with the owner who confirmed the other windows can be opened as well.

We understand that some persons can be bothered and sick because of the air conditioning. Of course you have the choice to turn it on or off at your convenience.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and we would be happy to assist you again in the future.

I knew that renting an apartment in NYC would help to not feel like a tourist. What I was not expecting however, was to feel like I was home. I have been to New York several times but have never experienced it this way before. From the moment I arrived at the apartment I knew I was in good hands with the owner/operator. He greeted me when I arrived at 11pm without the slightest shred of annoyance of my arival time.

I was shown around the apartment and treated to some highlights of the East Village area. For the next 9 days I didnt encounter this gentlemen, unless I so required, in which case he was very attentive and accommodating to requests.

The apartment itself is located in a typical New York townhouse. The location is spot on; in a relatively quite street in a bustling neighborhood. It can get a little louder than one would like at night, but you can never stop the garbage collection or sirens in the city that never sleeps. Restaurants, bars, cafes, stores are here in the dozens. And all are within a five minute walk of the apartment.

The space is a wonderfully large loft apartment with floorboards throughout. Three large windows allow an abundance of light and air to fill the apartment. A huge king bed (or two large singles) make for a very comfortable nights sleep. This is for those who have seen New York before but want a truly local lifestyle.

I will be strongly recommending this appartment again and return when I next visit. Thank you for helping make my stay in the city a treat!

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Apr 17 2013

Thank you Dean for being kind and fair in your review. My only reply is that a fire trucks siren's only purpose is to wake you up or get your attention for a possible emergency. This also goes for the garbage truck when it backs up to make a loud beep. I can control a lot of things in the apartment, these "city" noises are not one of them.

The apartment was excellent! Clean, quiet apartment building, close to great eateries, and within walking distance to SoHo. The area in which the apartment is located is much quieter and less hectic than tourist-y Midtown, but still loud for someone who's only lived in a quiet, suburban neighborhood.

Overall, great experience and would love to stay here again for my next visit.

Great vacation rental, very hospitable host, always available and extremely friendly. On the night we arrived, he gave us information on the city, useful tips, recommendations on restaurants.

The apartment is located in East Village, a quiet neighborhood during the week but a bit noisy in the evening and at weekends but you quickly forget the noise when you are tired. The apartment is also near a subway station (a 5-10 minute-walk) and close to several good restaurants and local stores.

We will go back to this apartment in a heartbeat for a future trip to New York.

Answer by: Accommodation Owner
Mar 18 2013

Thank you Adrien for your nice comments, we are glad that you found our information useful an liked the location. The apartment is facing the street although it is 3 floors up, there is noise on some nights and weekends. In NYC, there are garbage trucks that go by, police sirens and extra people honking their horns on the weekends.

You get great a view but not much we can do about the sometimes annoying normal city life noise. People who are sensitive to it should bring ear plugs. Although many guests are ok with it. But it is not something that is constant. In the summer people sleep with the A/C so there is no noise coming.

We would be pleased to host you again for your future trip to New York!

Thank you for your feedback. We understand why you gave low ratings due to noise. We disclose this in the property description, in which we state the following: "This apartment is in the East Village, which is a lively neighborhood and can be noisy at times, more so on the weekends than on weekdays."

This neighborhood has plenty of advantages that outweigh the noise issue, but if indeed one is looking for a quiet apartment, we have plenty of other options to fit that criteria.

This was my first extended time in New York and was so happy to find this apartment. It's an almost perfect place to stay. Upon my arrival, the owner/manager gave me a good rundown of the apartment and the neighborhood plus, supplied me with a map of New York(subways and all).

The apartment is nicely set up with hardwood floors, a leather sofa, nice round dining table, beds closet and kitchen area. It's big enough so that living area was away from the sleeping area. The kitchen area had everything needed for a week's stay though only one burner worked on the stove. The showerhead makes bathing a little interesting (needed to position it for hands free showering).

The location is along a wonderful street in the East Village and close to all public transportation & nice eateries. Due to the closeness to NYU, Friday and Saturday nights were a bit noisy until very late (something to consider if you're running the NY Marathon). After the weekend, all was peaceful and quiet. Otherwise, this apartment was great and, if I'm ever out there again, I'll definitely check for its availability.

This was my second vacation rental in Manhattan. I didn't like the 2006 one as much. This time right from the start (and even prior to my arrival in New York) I was impressed by the owner's quick response. It didn't change after I arrived. The key handover went smoothly and was really nice. The owner was invariably reliable and responsive. The owner took the trouble to leave first information on the neighborhood in the apartment, all on laminate A4 sheets and in blue folders. They contain useful tips on good restaurants and nice places to have breakfast, bars and convenient airport connections for the flight back. There was also an old version of the book 'THE NEW YORKER' displayed on the table. You can tell right away that the owner enjoys renting his apartment and isn't just interested in money.

The apartment is in a fantastic location within hip East Village close to a range of affordable restaurants and other important sites as well. The apartment itself is very quiet. Anyone who has been to New York before knows that even at night you can hear the usual noise from the city. When the windows are shut, you can still hear the sound of NY or some night owls making their way back home. So light sleepers should either make sure they have earplugs or else stay in an apartment at the back of the building.

The furnishing is functional and very cozy. There are many pots and dishes (though we didn't cook much, since there are so many great restaurants nearby). There is ample provision of towels. The apartment is spotless and perfect for two people. The bathroom is very small but beautiful with natural stone wall tiles. The wash basin is a bit impractical as it is askew along the wall; it seems impossible not to flood the bathroom floor when using it - not a big deal though. The mattresses were in good shape (just a bit too firm to my liking). I can't say enough good things about this accommodation. So I'll just stop now and will give a few suggestions for improvement. I don't have anything truly negative to address. If it were possible to give 10 stars I would do so!

Minor suggestions for improvement:
The glass table is way too big for the size of the room and is also very wobbly, since the table frame is not cut out for such a big glass top.
A full-length mirror is missing.
A kettle would be great - for those who don't like microwaves that much ;-)

A perfect accommodation in Manhattan.

The apartment was cozy and close to all the restaurants, sights and things we wanted to experience. Tony met us when we arrived and was most helpful and even got us our passes to the 9/11 Memorial. To be honest we felt like we were real New Yorkers and used many of the businesses in the area.

Excellent welcome from the owner. The accommodation was very clean. Quiet building. Quiet street and neighborhood well served with subway. Good restaurants nearby.

The price is a little high (compared with other capital cities) but I'm told it's regular New York price. It would help to have curtains on the windows to avoid being woken up too early in the morning. Moderate heat- and soundproofing, but the street is quiet.

Studio apartment is exactly as described on the website. Ideal for a couple (if you change the two single beds for a double bed!), the vacation rental is very bright thanks to its three large windows overlooking the tree-lined street and another window overlooking a church, but double-glazing would be a plus!

The bathroom is quite small but the shower is very nice, just one or two shelves would be helpful for toiletries. Tony is a friendly and dynamic owner!

The highlight was the charming welcome we received; all the little issues we met were very quickly and efficiently resolved. When we arrived we felt welcome as though we were friends; we were given a remarkably clear map of NYC and useful tips for our stay. The only drawback is the accommodation lack of soundproofing.

The noise comes from outside because the window insulation is not very good, but you get used to it.

We enjoyed our stay in the apartment.

Reasons:
Situated very conveniently for walking and for public transportation; lively neighbourhood with lots of ethnic restaurants and shops (it might be too lively if you are looking for a particularly quiet place, but it was fine for us);
The studio was good for the two of us, but we would not want to share it with more;
We appreciated very much the support by the owner's representative: helpful and friendly, he gave us many interesting hints you would not find in travel-books.

We will recommend the services of New York Habitat to our friends!

The vacation rental is really good, depending on the day, there is sometimes a little noise from the restaurants in the street.

Apart from that, I'd highly recommend it.

We were delighted with our vacation rental and the kindness [of our contact at the apartment].The location, the neighborhood, the nearby amenities: it was perfect.

However, we had some concerns with regard to the windows that were not draughtproof: we were cold for 2 nights, we had the feeling we were sleeping outdoors because the windows would not shut tightly.

Having a vacuum cleaner would have been nice ; a light (that didn't work) and its socket looked faulty and even dangerous (stripped wire sticking out from the wall and loose socket)

This did not mar our stay and I'd gladly recommend this accommodation option and more especially this neighborhood.

Thanks for everything.

Further to this review, we contacted the apartment owner who found leaves stuck in the window frame that he has now removed ; he also confirmed that a vacuum cleaner can be lent on request and that the defective light and socket have been repaired.

My friend and I booked the vacation rental on East 6th Street from 22 Feb - 1 Mar this year and had a fantastic stay.

The apartment was the ideal base from which to explore New York City during our holiday: very clean and well-stocked, with everything in working order including the heating which kept the apartment warm despite a 48 hour blizzard and arctic temperatures! The location was perfect for us - in a vibrant area with a short subway journey uptown and to Brooklyn.

The accommodation owner's representative who gave us the keys on arrival, was extremely friendly and helpful and left us a thoughtful array of maps and personalised guides to local amenities. I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to enjoy New York whilst avoiding the Midtown tourist trap.

One thing worth noting is that the noise levels in the area can be high, as New York Habitat had mentioned before we made the booking. As it happened, the only window-rattling moment we endured was when a series of trucks drove past the building at 5am each morning. This wasn't a problem for us but it did make a difference that we had been told about this in advance, so thank you and please continue to do so for other prospective tenants.

We'll definitely use NY Habitat again.

I stayed at the vacation rental in E 6th Street and it was wonderful. I could've moved in right then and there!

The reason I booked through NY habitat instead of booking a hotel was because I just really wanted to experience the city as a resident rather than a tourist and wanted to have 'my own' place and it truly felt like that.

In New York (the guy who runs the apt) was great. He was very welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful on arrival.

I will definitely use New York Habitat again for a stay in NYC, hopefully soon!

Many thanks,

The East Village was a great place to stay with a lot of different restaurants and shops. I would strongly recommend this neighbourhood to get a feel for New York, it was great to be in a lively neighbourhood.

I really enjoyed my stay in NY especially due to the reason that we slept in an apartment provided by NY Habitat.

Our host was very smart, he waited in the evening for us to open the apartment, and provided us a lot of Information about the [subway], the neighborhood and all this daily stuff. The apartment was quite small, but clean and fine, with good cable TV. We enjoyed every morning your American Morning TV.

The apartment was placed in the East Village in Manhattan. It was easy to go from there to everywhere in NY.

We really enjoyed the stay in NY, not only due to the amazing city, one key to success was the pleasant stay in NY Habitat apartment. We felt like real New Yorkers, not like tourists, this was the biggest advantage! I would and I will go every time again to a NY Habitat apartment when I visit NY again. I recommended this as well to a lot of friends.

Hi New York Habitat. We are back home since 15th nov and we still can't forget our perfect stay in the rented apartment. It was very small, but perfect for our demands.

It was clean and well-positioned, the bathroom was too small and the shower a bit non-easy and comfortable but it was ok for a one week-stay. The owner has been very kind with us but also reserved (not intrusive at all).

We are satisfied of the service, I thank you for your interest.

Nothing but good things to say about our experience in the [East Village-New York] apartment. This is the second time I have used New York Habitat to rent an apartment and it has really enhanced our experience both times.

The apartment was very clean and had all we needed for our stay (including a hair dryer which my girlfriend was extremely excited about).

The information provided about nearby restaurants and shops was very useful, as was the NY map (including Subway/Bus routes) which we used throughout our
stay.

We really enjoyed the vibrancy of the area and the proximity to both uptown and downtown Manhattan. We felt very safe both on the streets and in the apartment at night. I would definitely stay here again and use your service again, and have already recommended it to friends who wish to visit NY in the future.
