In many ways, Andy Warhol is the biggest visual art icon since the Second World War. Warhol’s brash embrace of commercialism and celebrity has been reproduced, repackaged and resold countless times since his death in the late 80s. As a result, Warhol’s style and individual masterpieces have become some of the world’s most recognizable visual art images.

This summer in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, The Brooklyn Museum will pay homage to the great modern artist with a special exhibit examining the final 10 years of Warhol’s life. The summer exhibit entitled Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is the first major American museum to examine the artist’s last ten years of work in a dedicated exhibit. The Last Decade brings together an impressive array of original works all completed by the late artist in the ten years leading up to his death. New York Habitat still has available accommodations in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, during the busy summer season for guests in town for the exhibition.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade examines a period of experimentation for the great modern artists with some 50 original works. The last period of Warhol’s life was one of varied creative and business ventures as well as a reengagement with the painting that made him such an icon. The exhibit reveals the influence of his late collaborations with other New York artists of the day including Keith Herring and Jean Michel Basquiat. The exhibit also displays Warhol’s late Last Supper paintings in which both his artistic singularity and his strong Catholic connections come together in a series of works. Any serious modern art lover visiting New York should make a visit to the Brooklyn Museum in order to enjoy a unique take on a very well-known artist.

Andy Warhol: The Last Decade is at the Brooklyn Museum from June 18th to September 12th. New York Habitat’s New York apartments are in very high demand during the summer months, visitors should book early. Below are a few New York Habitat apartments available this summer to whet your appetite.
