Time Out London magazine called it the city’s anthem. Music surveys argue that it’s the greatest song ever written about London. Some even speculate that the song’s “Terry and Julie” were based on the real-life romance of British screen icons Terence Stamp and Julie Christie—but when Ray Davies sings, “As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset / I am in paradise,” this writer, for one, knows exactly what he means.
